CPEEL Meet with Cardiff University at the first ever Nigeria Energy Forum

CPEEL delegates meet with a team of academic staff and researchers from Cardiff University School of Engineering at first Nigeria Energy Forum.

The event was held over 12th and 13th April at the Oriental Hotel in Lagos, Nigeria, with the theme ‘Sustainable Energy for all Nigerians – Grand Challenges, Big Opportunities’. Keynote speakers included His Excellency Professor Yemi Osinbajo, the Vice President of Nigeria, and the Nick Hurd MP, Minister for International Development in the UK Government.

Four members of staff from the School of Engineering were involved with organising the event, in collaboration with the Nigerian Institution of Electrical and Electronics Engineers:

  • Dr Daniel Adeuyi, Forum Chair
  • Mrs Bamise Olanrewaju, Innovation and Strategy Lead
  • Ms Khadijat Jose, Communications Director
  • Dr Akintunde Babatunde, Academic Lead

In addition to their organisational roles, Dr Adeuyi and Mrs Olanrewaju were involved in two keynote presentations during a session entitled ‘Strategic Development of the European Energy System’. Ms Jose also presented her own research, entitled ‘Impact of Changes in the UK Generation Mix on Frequency Control’, during a technical session.

The aim of the forum was to address barriers to sustainable energy development in Nigeria and other African countries, and attracted over 250 delegates over the two days. A range of conclusions and recommendations were agreed upon after the event, and the event could now be organised on an annual basis.
