A member of CPEEL Faculty, Dr. Temilade Sesan has been awarded a research grant by the British Council under the ‘Researchers’ Link Programme’ of the Council. Dr. Sesan was one of the four successful Nigerian lecturers that were awarded a combined sum of £24,380 as research grants.
Desmon Omovie, Communications Manager of the British Council in Nigeria, in a press statement explained that, the grant forms part of the Council’s ‘Researcher Links Initiative,’ which provides financial support for the researchers to spend up to three months in the United Kingdom (UK) and undertake various researches that would meet the developmental needs of Nigeria.
He added that the awardees would be supported by established researchers in the UK with proposed activity selected on the basis of mutual benefit, research quality and potential for sustained interaction.
The overall aim, he said is to among others “establish a new research link or significantly develop an existing link with potential for long term sustainability; contribute to capacity building of individual researchers and research groups; and support development-relevant research in Nigeria.
Omovie added further that “the initiative will encourage the involvement of social sciences and humanities researchers, as well as the natural sciences, and provides space for interdisciplinary interaction, with opportunities to bring together researchers from different fields focused on a common goal.”
