Kenya to Join the League of Oil Producers By 2017

With recent efforts of UK-listed Tullow Oil and Partners, Australia’s Africa Oil Corporation to submit a field development plan(FDP)by 2015,  it is expected that Kenya will join the league of oil producing countries in sub-Saharan Africa by 2017. The oil explorers believe production can start within the next three years, albeit the first oil discovery in Kenya was only made two years ago by the two oil companies in the North-west of Kenya; a region called Turkana country. The crude oil discovered so far, based on preliminary studies, is light sweet and waxy (25-35o API) with some of the wells drilled flowing between 3,000-5,000 barrels per day.
