Course Summary

The course aims to give students an understanding of the environment and development as well as the role of law in enhancing both. The major concepts include: Environmental Law and Development; Cultural Relativism; The Evolution Nature of Right to Development; Tensions between Environment and Development; Institutions of Development; International Development Treaties; Sustainable Development; and The Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). Specific topics include: Environmental Law and Development; Cultural Relativism; The Evolution and Nature of Right to Development; Tensions between Environment and Development; Institutions of Development/Institutional Framework on the Right to Development; African Institutional Framework on the Right to Development; National Legal and Institutional Framework on the Right to Development; and the Linkages between the Millennium Development Goals and Environmental and Energy Law and Policy Appreciation.
