ELECTRICITY, A VITAL ASPECT OF NIGERIA'S QUEST FOR INDUSTRIALIZATION

The chairman of the Board of Directors, Jos Electricity Distribution Company Plc, (JED) Alh. Mahmud Yayale Ahmed disclosed that electricity is an essential aspect of Nigeria’s quest for industrialisation, job creation, enterprise development, and national security.

According to him, since they took over the operation of JED, three years ago, the company has embarked on mass procurement of network improvement equipment such as transformers, Control Panels, Feeder Pillars, Energy Analyzers, Extension of 33kV line from Makeri Transmission to feed Anglo-Jos Injection Sub-station, construction of 4.9km 11kV overhead line to link Federal Low Cost to Rantiya Injection Sub- station.

Others are installation of a 2.5MVA by 33/11kV transformer at Oju, and rehabilitation of two control rooms at Zaria Road and Dilimi injection sub-stations, and procurement of over 151 drums of transformer oil to service transformers. The JED also procured in the first instance 10,000 energy meters and installed them across the network.
