Ayooluwa Adewole, a graduate research assistant was sponsored by the Centre to attend and present at the 34th United States Association for Energy Economics/International Association for Energy Economics (USAEE/IAEE) North American Annual Conference which was held from October 23-26, 2016 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, Tulsa, Oklahoma, U.S.A. At the conference, he presented the paper titled “Effects of North American Oil and Gas Developments On the Nigerian Economy”. The paper was co-authored with Ikedi Chinyere, an M.Sc. student of the Centre Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria. The paper explored some trade, economic and policy effects and implications of the shale oil and gas revolution in the United States on the Nigerian Economy. The paper was well received by the attendants of the conference and it was another good opportunity to showcase some of the ongoing activities of the Centre. Notably, the paper was also the only paper presented by any Nigerian Research Institute or University at the conference, which also reinforces CPEEL’s position as the front runner in Energy Studies and Research in Nigeria and indeed the Gulf of Guinea Region.
