The study relied primarily on both qualitative and quantitative primary data collection methods due to the nature of the study. The major qualitative methods used were Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) with groups of men, women and youth and In-Depth Interviews (IDIs) with key informants at community level. FGDs generally produce a consensus of opinion from different groups in the community. The number of discussants for each FGD varies, but none was less than 15 during the period of data collection. The groups were separated by gender and generation; that is, into men, women and youth. This way, gender and generational differences in perception on various issues of study were determined since it is known that in many localities, women cannot easily express themselves in mixed groups while their priorities and perspectives differ from those of men and male youth.
